Eliza - yesterday was an epic day

What day is it? I think we are on our 6th day. Yesterday was an epic day. We set the 3/4 ounce spinnaker and had it flying beautifully. I was driving a lot, and now have a few callouses and have developed carpal tunnel from driving! Typing feels pretty weird, as the tips of my first finger and thumb are tingling (don't worry, Dava, it will be gone after a week of relaxing in Hawaii!). After several hours, the wind started to build to 25+ knots and we could not carry that spinnaker anymore, so we took it down. No less than an hour later we had it up again. A couple hours after that, we had some bad luck with the spinnaker wrapping around the forestay, and the spinnaker sock line also wrapped. WE tried every which way to get it off. Three hours later (yes!) we had it down. Dave had to cut the sock line and there was a small tear in the kite, but under the circumstances we felt lucky. The worst part was not moving for three hours. I had to take some Rescue Remedy (homage to the Vaughan girls). We have finally made it into sunny weather, which is very nice, although at the moment we are in a light patch of wind. It has been killing me. I realized I am a speed demon (Mario on the water, right, Mom?). I broke the boat speed record yesterday at 14.2 knots surfing a big wave. Today my goals have changed dramatically - how many seconds I can keep the spinnaker full and can I get the boat over 6 knots? I am being called on deck... more soon.

I am so glad I get to read this after the fact with a happy ending. Way to go Team! I can only imagine the range of emotions that each of you experienced...just that is exhausting. Cut that funny business out! This is supposed to be a "fun" race.
